The cold is really really setting in.... Its like -4 degrees Celsius now... and the grass is all crunchy because theres frost. And I just walked back from rootes where my friends stay cause we met up for dinner...  I really really think i've learnt to walk faster. Like walk faster walk faster so that I can go into the warmth of my room. And hopefully not come out for a long time!! hahaha!!

I think its time to take out my gloves and scarf cause the cold is really getting very biting. (: AND I CANT WAIT FOR IT TO SNOW!!!!!!!! (: its snowing almost everywhere except warwick :/ so sad:(

english, singlish
I was sitting in the library trying to finish my readings when i heard this loud voice going in a perfect English accent, 'Long time no see!' and I was like O.o And I looked up to see who the person was, and it wasn't a Singaporean! ( I'm pretty sure she is a Brit)

Being here for a while, I've realised that the word 'huh', while considered part of singlish, is widely adopted here and completely understood. Its sort of funny, when we've been taught all our lives that no one outside Singapore is going to understand you if you speak in sentences that are grammatically incorrect and use words such as 'huh' and so on, but it actually is widely understood. I've realised that people do not understand what I say not because I dont speak in proper sentences, but because I speak with a Singaporean accent, which is something they arent use to. And so i have to speak slowly and try to adopt their accent (which i still cant quite do), for them to understand me. And so i realised that it isnt singlish singlish that prevents them from understanding me, but more of the singaporean accent which causes them to not understand anything i say...

So is speaking proper english, to communicate with the rest of the world really that important?Or is the accent that we speak in more important?  HAHA. weird isnt it? especially since we have been taught from young that proper english would help us communicate effectively with the world. (:

random rambling
OKAYYY.... GUESS WHAT WE ARE DOING FOR HISTORY? ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY ON LANDSCAPES AND PAINTINGS!! WOW!! i never actually thought that we would do something so completely random for a history module. I mean history more or less = politics, economics and social history. BUT heyy we had a geog lesson and an art lesson(: so anyway i actually woke up for the lecture today even though its at 9 and it was raining and it was so much warmer in my bed, and like more than half the cohort PONNED IT!! but anyway i was a good girl and went for lecture. Which turned out to be quite interesting. (:

Anyway i was reading the readings for this topic, about environmentalism and arciadianism and romanticism, more on arcadianism than anything else, but anyways there was this sentence about how Gilbert White (more or less the founder of arcadianism) was talking about how scientist should focus on wildlife and plants that actually matter, and contribute to humans rather than those that dont. And it struck me, how do you know what matters and what doesnt? I mean if you think about on the surface it makes sense because why waste resources on things that apparently dont matter to humans well-being. But, how do you actually know what matters and what doesnt. And what can contribute more to mankind and what cant? How do you decide? And than it struck me that he said that cause it was an unknown-unknown, which we have been talking about in South Asia lecture, where you dont know what you dont know so you simply exclude it. haha. anyways i was thinking no wonder we never found a cure for cancer.... it might just be in some random tiny, minute, insignificant organism that is seemingly unimportant to the human kind and might even be considered a pest. HAHA! But anyways it struck me that we do it so frequently, where we decide that something is unimportant and insignificant so we exclude it totally, and we make our judgement based on what we deem important, when actually that something might be a very important factor. Its scary isnt it?
And isn't that why so many things go wrong? Because we assume we know what is best, when actually we dont have complete information and can never have complete information? haha...

okayy sorry for this completely random, quite incoherent, and super weird post, i think im just bored. (:

obligation vs want, i dont really know what to do...

I WENT TO LONDON!! for the first time in my life!! hahaa.... on saturday, and came back on sunday. And it was really really really fun, even though come to think of it, we didnt get to do much. But i got to eat nice food!!!! LIKE ROAST DUCK AND KOREAN FOOD!! and I'm super super super super super super happy!! (:

This trip was basically a touristy sight seeing trip, so I went to all the sight seeing places, like trafagar square ( i cant spell ), the red square on the monopoly board(: anyways i also saw the big ben, the london eye, went to harrolds, and buckingham palace (we didnt get to see the changing of guards though ) yeahh!! And calvin sim brought us around london for BOTH days!!! (: using his gps on his iphone, which led us to dark alleys!!! HEEHEE!! AND i got to meet pat and jamie!!!!! :D:D:D:D havent seen them in a long long long long long time:/

and today i went to birmingham. Actually i wanted to go partly because i wanted to get my fingerprinting done for the warwick volunteers thing, but turns out i couldnt do it because the police station that i went to didnt do it, so i think i have to go down again. SIGH! but i did get to eat dim sum!! (:

i scream and ice-cream
I SCREAMMM!!! because I'M FINALLY DONE WITH MY ESSAY, and guess what? I HAVE ANOTHER ONE DUE-.- seriously... all I've really done since school started is read and read and read and read and read!! Its not that its not interesting, but sometimes i miss doing math and chem and other stuff and yelling that the answer is wrong when its actually correct. (Sharon would be able to relate to this:D) and feeling smart when i can solve the question. I miss it quite a bit. but oh wells... And its quite interesting to sit here in my room and listen to my other flatmates talk about their essays and writing their biblios cause there are like 4 people taking history in my flat... so everyone is stressing over this essay cause its the essay for the core module(:

Ice cream!!! I LOVE ICE CREAM!! and its sooooooooooo cheap here!!! like a tub of hagen daz is like 2.50 pounds, (about 5 sing) and bens and jerrys is on offer, like at 2.39 pounds, and so everyone has been spamming it. I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS! even though the weather is like freezing, everyone is still eating ice cream because its so cheap!! We more or less wiped out the entire b and j's ice cream shelf at cost cutters... hahaha. The only problem is if you keep eating without moving(like me!!) because you are sitting in your room reading or writing essays, YOU ARE GOING TO GROW FAT!! and thats why im worried.... cause i dont want to put on too much weight.... my sister said i looked fat when she skyped me! (ruiwen if you read this DO NOT COMMENT ON IT!! i know what you are going to say!! -.-) hahaha.

so yeahh thats my ultra deprived life.... heehee!!
random thing: ruiwen, when i tried to spell ruin when writing my essay, i dont know why i automatically spelled your name. hahaha. are you honoured? (:
