random rambling
OKAYYY.... GUESS WHAT WE ARE DOING FOR HISTORY? ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY ON LANDSCAPES AND PAINTINGS!! WOW!! i never actually thought that we would do something so completely random for a history module. I mean history more or less = politics, economics and social history. BUT heyy we had a geog lesson and an art lesson(: so anyway i actually woke up for the lecture today even though its at 9 and it was raining and it was so much warmer in my bed, and like more than half the cohort PONNED IT!! but anyway i was a good girl and went for lecture. Which turned out to be quite interesting. (:

Anyway i was reading the readings for this topic, about environmentalism and arciadianism and romanticism, more on arcadianism than anything else, but anyways there was this sentence about how Gilbert White (more or less the founder of arcadianism) was talking about how scientist should focus on wildlife and plants that actually matter, and contribute to humans rather than those that dont. And it struck me, how do you know what matters and what doesnt? I mean if you think about on the surface it makes sense because why waste resources on things that apparently dont matter to humans well-being. But, how do you actually know what matters and what doesnt. And what can contribute more to mankind and what cant? How do you decide? And than it struck me that he said that cause it was an unknown-unknown, which we have been talking about in South Asia lecture, where you dont know what you dont know so you simply exclude it. haha. anyways i was thinking no wonder we never found a cure for cancer.... it might just be in some random tiny, minute, insignificant organism that is seemingly unimportant to the human kind and might even be considered a pest. HAHA! But anyways it struck me that we do it so frequently, where we decide that something is unimportant and insignificant so we exclude it totally, and we make our judgement based on what we deem important, when actually that something might be a very important factor. Its scary isnt it?
And isn't that why so many things go wrong? Because we assume we know what is best, when actually we dont have complete information and can never have complete information? haha...

okayy sorry for this completely random, quite incoherent, and super weird post, i think im just bored. (:

obligation vs want, i dont really know what to do...
